- Where exactly
- On English Street. The exact spot isn't known, so the pin marks the street, not the building.
Mary Davidson was innkeeper in 1811, one of several women keeping English Street houses that year. The records place a Cross Keys at Peascod Lane, English Street, from before 1782; it became the Liddesdale Tavern in the 1850s and the Citadel around 1860, and closed in 1861. Mary Davidson's house may well be that one.

Open question
An unsolved mystery
Was Mary Davidson's Cross Keys of 1811 the Cross Keys in Peascod's Lane, which became the Liddesdale Tavern in the 1850s?
If you know the answer, or where it might be found (an old photograph, a family story, a document), tell us and it goes into the story above.
