Things we don't know
Everything on this site that we've had to write down as unresolved. Most of these aren't in any archive — they're in somebody's head, and that somebody probably drinks in Carlisle.
If you know the answer to any of them, or you're just fairly sure, say so. Being fairly sure is more than we've got.
And the big one: photographs
There are dozens of lost pubs recorded on this site and not a single picture of any of them. The Civic Centre stands over four Rickergate pubs. Castle Way went through three on Annetwell Street. The Cumberland Wrestlers on Currock Street has a name and nothing else.
Photographs of those are the one thing no amount of research can produce. They're in shoeboxes and loft boxes and on somebody's phone, photographed off a pub wall. If you have one, or your dad does, that would be worth more to this site than anything else on this page.
How this list works
Every question here corresponds to something on a pub's page that we've marked as unverified, disputed or simply unknown. When one gets answered, the pub's page gets rewritten and the question comes off this list. Nothing gets quietly upgraded from rumour to fact without a source — that's the whole point of keeping the list in public.
