A spirit shop on Rickergate with a six-day licence and early closing, and in its last years the property of J. Walker and Sons, the Kilmarnock whisky distillers, who bought it in 1896 for £4,000. From 1900 they leased the licensed part to the Brampton Old Brewery Company. Samuel Shipley was the tenant in July 1906, when it came before the county Compensation Authority, selling about 73 barrels of beer a year, 147 gallons of spirits, 171 dozen bottled beer and 200 dozen mineral waters.
One valuer put it at £1,842 with the licence and £250 without. The Authority offered £650 and adjourned, and the licence went in February 1907 with those of the Rising Sun, the Horse and Farrier and the Otter.
