Lost pub ยท Rickergate
Scotch Arms Hotel
- Gone
- 23 October 1916
- There now
- Carlisle Magistrates Court extension, and for a time the bus station
- Where exactly
- Partly under the modern Magistrates' Court extension, opposite the Fox & Hounds
Acquired by the scheme in 1916 and closed on 23 October the same year, so it had months rather than years. The Fox & Hounds stood opposite and outlived it by forty-four. The site is under the Magistrates' Court extension, along with the Blue Bell next door, and was the bus station for a time in between. The same Denis McCauley had earlier run the Blue Bell Inn a short distance away, and in 1877 opened the Star Music Hall on Rickergate -- one entrepreneur's name turning up across three ventures on the same street over several decades.
