Under the Magistrates' Court, at the former corner of Rickergate and Warwick Road

Stood on the corner of Rickergate and Warwick Road, and there may have been a pub on the spot as early as 1683. Its closure on 3 September 1900 puts it before the State Management Scheme entirely: Rickergate was losing pubs long before the government arrived to speed things up. Of the fourteen or so pubs the street had at the end of the nineteenth century, only eight made it as far as 1916. It was also known as the Flying Horseman: Marion Armstrong is recorded under that name in the 1861 census, and J.

McCormick, born in Scotland, in 1891. A Carlisle Patriot notice of 25 August 1899 records a proposal to transfer its licence to new premises on Lindisfarne Street -- a year before the Linton Holme Hotel opened on that same street in November 1901. The dates and the street fit, but nothing found here states outright that one became the other.
