- On Rickergate. The exact spot isn't known, so the pin marks the street, not the building.
A lost Crown and Thistle on Rickergate, and a different house from the Crown and Thistle still trading on Church Street, Stanwix. The 1821 New Guide to Carlisle names William Tweddle at the sign, p76, and it is listed in the 1829 Cumberland directory. One record carries it to 1834. In 1829 William Tweddle was still at the sign, and Burns' anniversary was held 'at the Crown and Thistle and Burns' Taverns'; which of the city's two Crown and Thistles is not said, the other being James Robinson's at Stanwix.
