Lost pub ยท Rickergate
The Wheat Sheaf Inn
- Built
- On the 1867 OS map; possibly late 18th century
- Gone
- Closed by the Board, 11 October 1916
- There now
- Carlisle Magistrates' Court, formerly the police headquarters
- Where exactly
- Under the Magistrates' Court, built as the police headquarters
Little is known about it and no period photographs have been found. There's an irony in what replaced it: the pub closed by the state in 1916 now lies under the building that became the Magistrates' Court after the 2005 flood drove it out of the old police headquarters.
