On Rickergate. The exact spot isn't known, so the pin marks the street, not the building.

On Rickergate from 1787, under a run of names for the same sign: the Hare and Hounds, also recorded as the Hound and Hare and the Greyhound and Hare. A Carlisle Journal notice of 25 February 1804 records the death of its innkeeper William Clarke, and another of 18 May 1839 advertises the 'Hound and Hare Public House' for sale. It became the Alma in 1857 or 1858 and appears in the directories under that name between 1858 and 1861; one record carries it on to 1869. The 1861 census gives Mary Wren, victualler, aged 45, born Workington. The Bay Horse was built on its site in 1864. Parson and White's directory of 1829 names George Armstrong as its keeper, when it was the Hare and Hounds.
