Placed on Rickergate from the position of pubs still standing there. Somewhere on this street, not this doorway

In the local directories until 1906, giving its name to the surviving Barley Stack Lane off Rickergate. Thomas Kilvington is named as innkeeper in 1828. " Charles Daly, 50 and Carlisle-born, kept it by the 1901 census. The last trace of it is a Cumberland News advertisement from September 1911, offering the "Old Barley Stack Temperance Hotel" to let: whatever the pub had become by then, it was no longer trading as an ordinary licensed house.
