A daytime cafe and restaurant that happens to hold a drinks licence, rather than a pub: breakfast, brunch, cakes, scones, toasted teacakes and full meals, with beer, wine and prosecco alongside, waiter service, seating over two floors and tables out on the pavement. The premises have been licensed as a cafe-restaurant since at least September 2010, while Brewed Awakenings Limited was incorporated on 28 June 2016, so something else held the licence here first.

The building is the interesting part, and it is not on the main square as the listings all claim: it is on the curved corner where Fisher Street meets St Albans Row. Historic England lists 31-37 Fisher Street as a group, Grade II since 22 March 1974: two houses and a warehouse, now shops. Number 31/33 carries an oval datestone of 1776; 35/37, this one, is late eighteenth century, three storeys on its curved corner site, a single bay to Fisher Street and two to St Albans Row, with a higher roof line than its neighbour, painted stucco walls and an end brick chimney stack. The listing was originally made out to numbers 35 and 37 alone before the group entry replaced it.

Worth looking up while you are outside: on the neighbouring 31/33, between the upper floor windows, is a firemark of the Newcastle Fire Insurance Company, and the listing records it as the only one left in the city.
