Known in its early years as the Old Ship, and named on the 1865 fifty-inch Ordnance Survey map simply as the Ship. This page's own account has it gone from the directories by 1869, while a separately-held pub database keeps it trading to 1880 -- a gap of over a decade between the two closing dates that hasn't been reconciled. A different pub from the Ship Inn on Rickergate, which traded under the same plain sign on the other side of the city centre.
