At 19 Botchergate, trading before 1829 and in the local directories from 1834 to 1837. It shares only its sign with the Saddle Inns on Fisher Street and at Willowholme: three unrelated houses. On the morning of Carlisle's first council election, 26 December 1835, Botchergate burgesses unhappy with their ward committee's list of six candidates met here at eleven, 'opposite to the polling place', which was the Moulders' Arms, later the Albert. The Moulders' landlord, Richard Kirkbride, took the chair, and speakers complained of 'dictation' by a committee sitting over the way.
