On St Cuthbert's Lane, in the same small cluster as the Fish and Dolphin, the Woolpack and the Drove Inn history already on this site for that street. In local directories from 1834 to 1855, and put up for sale twice in close succession: the Carlisle Patriot on 23 April 1847 and the Carlisle Journal the following day, 24 April 1847. A separate, differently-named Wellington -- the Wellington Inn at 37 English Street, later amalgamated with the Three Crowns into the Citadel Tavern -- stood a short distance away; nothing found here ties the two together, and on the evidence they look like two unrelated pubs sharing a common regimental name.
