At 3 St Cuthbert's Lane, in the same short lane as the Fish and Dolphin. It was trading from 1822, and Parson and White's directory of 1829 names Richard Rodford as keeper of the Wellington, St Cuthbert's Lane. It was put up for sale twice in close succession, in the Carlisle Patriot on 23 April 1847 and in the Carlisle Journal the following day. Not the Wellington Inn on English Street, later amalgamated with the Three Crowns into the Citadel Tavern.
It is in the local directories from 1834 to 1858, when the Post Office directory lists 'Wellington inn, P. Nicholson, St. Cuthbert's lane'; one record carries it to 1867. The Cumberland News of 22 February 1991 lists a Wellington among the inns of the lane that stood on what later became Binns' site, with the Golden Lion, the Shakespeare Tavern and the Woolpack, and asked for photographs.

Does anyone have a photograph of the Wellington on St Cuthbert's Lane? Bill Boak asked for one in the Cumberland News of 22 February 1991, saying it stood on what became Binns' site with the Golden Lion, the Shakespeare Tavern and the Woolpack.
