Stanleys Bar & Cafe

โ€”

Bar and cafe doing cocktails, brunch and bottomless. Thursday to Sunday.

History

Opened Licensed from 2022

Bar, cafe and restaurant on Lowther Street โ€” breakfast through to the early hours, which is a wider span than most places here attempt. Live music, bottomless brunch, food all day.

It's new. The premises licence was applied for in May 2022 and the current one runs from January 2026. There's no older Stanley's behind it, so no history to claim.

The interest is where it stands. A few doors up at 8 Lowther Street is the building that became the Gretna Tavern in 1916 โ€” the first state-managed pub in the country, converted from Carlisle's main post office. Stanleys is a very new bar on a street with the deepest pub history in the city.
