Placed on Annetwell Street from the position of pubs still standing there. Somewhere on this street, not this doorway

Traded on Annetwell Street from 1834, for some years under the name the Fox and Grapes before reverting to the Wrestlers Arms — a different pub from the Fox and Grapes on Irish Damside, which stood elsewhere in the city. It was advertised for sale as 'an old established inn' in 1895, and a 1912 newspaper item reported the beerhouse closed; a separately-held Carlisle pub database gives 1910 for the same closure, a trivial discrepancy.
