Matthew Armstrong, born at Holme Low, was innkeeper in 1861, aged 27. In the directories until about 1870, though the site's own pub database carries it on the books until 1879 -- a lag between a directory dropping a pub and its actual closing that turns up elsewhere in this archive too. A different pub from the Pack Horse Inns on English Street and on Water Street.
