History
A bowling club on Goschen Road, off Dalston Road in Denton Holme, with a clubhouse and a well-kept green. The bar runs on a club premises certificate rather than a licence, which is the usual arrangement: members and their guests, not passing trade. Certificate CP013 has been in force since 24 November 2005 with nothing recorded against it since.
It plays in the Carliol League and in the over-55s league alongside Courtfield, Subscription, Stanwix, Brampton, Wetheral, Kirkbride and the Magpie, so the bowling side of the city is a small and well-connected world: the Magpie's green is the last of the Magpie Inn's, the only State Management bowling green still played on.
Greens are hard work, and this one has had a bad spell. Courtfield's league round-up in the 2025 season records a fixture going unplayed because West End were still having difficulties with their green, in a week when the team lost 10-0 to Courtfield and 2-8 to the Magpie.

Open question
What we don't know yet
When was West End Bowling Club founded, and did the green recover? Nothing is written down about its origins, and a 2025 league round-up has fixtures going unplayed because of trouble with the green.
If you know the answer, or where it might be found (an old photograph, a family story, a document), tell us and it goes into the history above.
