Placed on Caldewgate from the position of pubs still standing there. Somewhere on this street, not this doorway

Stood just beyond what is now the traffic island, where the access into Sainsbury's runs, with the Royal Oak a little further along. A 1910 photograph shows the three of them together: the Queens Head, the Royal Oak and the Globe. The Queens Head closed in 1918, the Royal Oak was pulled down in 1987, and only the Globe building survives from that view, itself no longer a pub since 2010. Caldewgate lost its pubs slowly, over seventy years, rather than all at once.

Not to be confused with the Old Queens Head, a separate Caldewgate pub on Church Street with its own tangled history -- the Carlisle Encyclopaedia itself warns there were at least two, possibly three, differently-sited Queens Heads in this part of the city.
