Placed on Warwick Road from the position of pubs still standing there. Somewhere on this street, not this doorway

The pub Redfern's most extravagant building was built to replace. When the Crescent Inn went up across the road in 1932, all terracotta and Moorish balcony, it was to take over the trade of the Lord Brougham, and that is the scheme's standard move: supersede the old house, open an improved one, close the original. The Crescent is still there as the Andalusian. Named for Henry Brougham, the Westmorland-born Lord Chancellor, whose family seat was Brougham Hall near Penrith.
