A third Carleton pub, and one nobody had recorded here at all. The directories carry it from before 1829 to 1917, which places its closure squarely in the State Management Scheme's first purge: the Board took the district's licensed houses in 1916 and shut those it judged surplus over the following three years. Not to be confused with either of the city's Golden Fleeces, on Corporation Road and on St Nicholas Street, the latter of which became the South End Constitutional Club. Three pubs of that name in one small district, all of them gone as pubs.
