- The same house as the Golden Fleece, which took over from it about 1860, on the corner of Solway Street; placed beside the Golden Fleece's grid reference in Historic England's gazetteer of the scheme's premises.
In the directories from 1848 to 1858, at 1 Corporation Road. The 1861 census shows Stephen Sharp, born at Castle Sowerby, as innkeeper there. Around 1860 the house took a new name, the Golden Fleece, and it traded under that until the late 1920s. Sharp had kept the Golden Fleece on St Nicholas Street in 1858, until its owner let it again from Whitsuntide 1860, so he very probably brought the name with him; he died at the Golden Fleece, Corporation Road, in July 1866. Carlisle had older Buck Inns: one at Irishgate, advertised for sale in 1818, and one on Port Road, gone before 1829, where the Sun and Star later stood.
