In the local directory for 1858, and per a separately-held pub database trading as a beer house from 1858 to 1863. It took its name, per the Carlisle Natural History Society's own transactions, from mounted animal specimens on display inside -- a museum's worth of taxidermy over the bar, for a pub that lasted barely five years under the name. Not to be confused with the still-open Museum Inn on Moorhouse Road in Belle Vue, over a mile away: that one only shows up in directories from 1876, thirteen years after this one had already vanished, and its own museum story -- landlord Irving Blaylock's taxidermy collection around 1900 -- is a separate, later find. Two Carlisle pubs, unconnected, both named for a cabinet of stuffed animals over the bar.
