In the local directories from 1858 to 1914, and per a separately-held pub database trading from 1854. Took its name from the nearby Dixon's textile factory -- the same firm the site's own Milbourne Arms entry, a short walk away, also nods to. A Meadow Brewery house, sold to the Central Control Board in September 1916, and closed the following year. Ruth Allison Harding, born in Carlisle, was publican in the 1901 census -- one of relatively few named female publicans in this archive.
