Placed from the Ordnance Survey grid reference, NY4759968919, in Historic England's gazetteer of the scheme's premises. The building's use in 2018: residential.

The pub the scheme kept at Bolton Fell End, taken and refitted in 1917, the year it closed the Howard Arms nearby. It was let to its tenant in 1968 and sold as a tenanted house for £5,500 in the sale of 1972-3. Not to be confused with the Dog Inn at Kingstown, which traded as the Pointer Dog for a time. Its sign was designed by J. W. Temple and shown at the Inn Signs Exhibition at the Building Centre in London in 1936, proof that Redfern, fond as he was of Ernest Dinkel, would use other artists.

In July 1916 the Cumberland News's list of the Longtown division's licensed houses gives it as the Spaniel Dog, Bolton Fell, next to the Howard Arms. The Kingstown house marked on the 1865 Ordnance Survey map as the Spaniel Dog Inn is a different pub, so the two dogs swapped names more than once between them. The Kingstown house was advertised to let as the Pointer Dog Inn in October 1864, in a notice that also offered two cottages at Hethersgill, close to this one, through the same agent.

Sold in 1973 as the Pointers Dog Inn, a tenanted house, for £5,500. Who bought the rest
