At Bolton Fell End, north of Hethersgill, closed by the Board in 1917. It stood a few yards from the Pointer Dog, which the scheme kept. In July 1916 the Cumberland News listed it as the Howard Arms, Bolton Fell, next to the Spaniel Dog, among the twenty-four licensed houses in the Longtown division. In 1895 James Carruthers of the Howard Arms Inn, Bolton Fell, was cautioned at the brewster sessions after a conviction for permitting drunkenness; he and Mrs Carruthers had both been away from home, he said, and the servant had served the drink.
