A beerhouse on Backhouse Walk from 1839 to 1846, then in the directories as the New Inn from 1847 to about 1902-03. James Slee, innkeeper and bookbinder, born at Armathwaite, held it in 1861; Mary McCourt, born in Ireland, was innkeeper by 1901.
