Not the Black Bull Vaults on Annetwell Street, which the scheme bought in August 1916 and folded into the Irish Gate Tavern. This was a separate house out at Upperby, and no exact closing date is recorded, though it does appear in the local directories as late as 1925, the last trace of it in print. It had its own piece of yearly ceremony too: around the turn of the twentieth century, the mock-mayoral "election" of Johnny Rinchester as Mock Mayor of Upperby set off from here every New Year's Day, processing to the river, the crossroads, Lamb Street and Roseland Terrace for speeches before the parade returned to the Black Bull itself.
