The only one of Harry Redfern's new-build pubs that has been demolished. He put it up in 1930 on a plan close to the one he had just used at the Coach & Horses, with a bowling green behind it like most of his suburban houses. The scheme's 1920 roll already lists a Rose & Crown at Upperby, so his building was probably a replacement for an older pub, though nothing confirms it stood on the same ground.

It came down in 2013. Every other model pub he built is still standing in some use or other, which is why this one is missing from the Redfern list on the history page. It holds a melancholy distinction. A survey of every Redfern pub notes that this is the only one of his new-build houses to have been lost outright: the rest are all still standing, whether as pubs, restaurants, flats or a martial arts centre.

Of everything the scheme built new, the Rose & Crown is the one that is simply gone. It reopened under new management, T and G Smith, in March 2008, ahead of the eventual demolition, announced in January 2013 and carried out the following month.
