Fats

Gone
Closed in the 2000s
There now
Amato's, an Italian restaurant

It opened as Fat Fingers and shortened itself to Fats, which is the name most people remember. It stood in a handsome old building on the corner of Abbey Street, behind the Cathedral and in the best-looking part of the city, and in the early 2000s it was where the cool crowd went. It was run by John Van Lierop, who had a hand in a good many of the trendier Carlisle bars over the years. The building is Amato's now, and the interior is said to be much as it was, so it is one of the very few places on this list you can still stand inside.
