Number 34 Botchergate was the Bronx Sports Bar, which billed itself as Carlisle's only bar dedicated to sport: projectors, big screens, pool, darts and pizza, open until half past three in the morning when CAMRA surveyed it in 2019. Event listings have also billed Secret at number 34 together with Thirty Two next door as one venue. The order in which those names came is not established.
The present licence was applied for new in 2025 and granted that June, though no record says whether it was Footloose from the start. It changed hands in June 2026, and the designated supervisor changed twice that summer. What it is now is a seventies, eighties and nineties bar, as its full name says, at the city end of Botchergate, where a local DJ promotes nights, some of them with a rodeo bull.
It pairs with Deja Vu a short walk away in Englishgate Plaza, which does the sixties to the eighties. Between them Botchergate now has two retro bars within a couple of hundred yards of each other, overlapping by a decade.
