The pub on the A69 at Aglionby, and a State Management house: the scheme's roll of 1920 lists the Waterloo at Aglionby, near Carlisle, at number 54. Aglionby is the hamlet immediately east of the city on the Newcastle road, and the Waterloo stood on the roadside there, which is what a coaching name like this usually means: a pub facing the traffic rather than a village. CAMRA record it as permanently closed.
It had already changed trade by July 2011, when a photograph shows it open as an Indian restaurant called Rahi at the Waterloo. It is now Khan's at the Waterloo, run by the Khan family, Indian and Bangladeshi, and by the reviews one of the better places to eat near the city. The pub name has outlived the pub through at least two restaurants. No closing date for the Waterloo itself has been recorded. It is a short walk from Carlisle Golf Club, whose clubhouse is now the only bar at Aglionby.
