In the local directories from 1850 as the Union Hotel, having traded earlier as the British Field Place from 1837. " By 1880 the directories give its address as 51 Scotch Street rather than Citadel Row, though it's the same house. A separate, much thinner Union Inn on Irishgate Brow, in the directories only from 1858 to 1861, is a different pub again.
