- Brown's Lane, Castle Street
On Brown's Lane, off Castle Street, closing in 1897. In July 1875 it made the newspapers when police raided it for illegal betting. It may be the same building as the 'Shoulder of Mutton,' recorded at the same lane under a slightly different name and closing a year later, in 1898, after a licence refusal — the Carlisle Encyclopaedia treats them as two separate headwords without settling whether they're one pub renamed or two adjoining ones.
