An eighteenth-century inn at Greymoor Hill, north of Kingstown by what is now junction 44 of the M6, trading as the Plough until 1847. In 1848 it changed its name to the Galaor, after a racehorse, and that year the Carlisle Journal advertised to let 'the Galaor Inn, Grimoor Hill'; in September it was offered again, 'that well-accustomed HOUSE known by the name of the GALAOR INN', through William Blamire of Harker Lodge.
The Post Office directory of 1858 lists the 'Galaor inn, A. Millican, Grey moor, Kingstown', and it was to let once more in August 1858, 'about two miles from Carlisle, and on the Edinburgh road'. In November 1860 it was the saleroom for two Kingstown houses belonging to Edward Carr, who had sold up the village's Black Bull eighteen years before. One record dates the Galaor Inn from 1858, which these notices show is too late, and its licence was withdrawn some time after 1863.
