At 20 James Street, named for the railway company whose line came into Citadel station, and one of a set of Carlisle pubs named after the companies that ran them: the Midland Railway Tavern on Botchergate went in 1893, and the Pedestrian Arms spent forty years as the North British Railway Inn. Two sources give 1938 as the closing year, the same year as the Samson on London Road. Earlier traded as Saint Stephen's Inn, in the local directories under that name from 1869 to 1873.
A separately-held pub database gives an earlier name still, the Hat & Feathers, from 1854 to 1865, before it became Saint Stephens Inn (1865-74) and then took the railway-company name. That same database has the building, listed Grade II, closed for flooding from 4 December 2015 to 16 April 2016 -- long after the 1938 closing date given above, which comes from a different source. The two accounts haven't been reconciled; see the Railway Inn, Hewson Street, very likely this same pub under a locally shortened name, for the same open question.
