Originally built around 1970 as a regional office for the typewriter and office-equipment firm Olivetti, designed by the architect Ted Cullinan — a striking pedigree for a building that went on to become a nightclub. It was trading as the Pagoda by the mid-to-late 1970s and was later renamed Freedom, closing the loop on a name that had turned up in several other Carlisle nightlife records without anyone pinning down which building it referred to.
