Placed on Blackfriars Street from the position of the Sportsman Inn nearby. Somewhere on this street, not this doorway

A separate, older pub from the still-trading Coach and Horses out at Kingstown -- a genuinely distinct house, not an earlier chapter of that one. Joseph Hall is named in the 1829 directory. The 1861 census gives Mary Willis, 42 and born at Wigton, as innkeeper; James Barker, 31 and born in Sheffield, is recorded there in the 1891 census, still there ten years later, aged 41, in the 1901 census. The Evening News and Star reported its closure on 2 November 1916. A photograph of it is reproduced in Denis Perriam's book on Blackfriars Street, p13.
