At Laversdale, near Irthington and the airport. It started life as the Dog & Gun in the early nineteenth century and swapped between that name and the Sportsman more than once, settling on the Sportsman for good in 1978. It closed in 2013 and was put up for sale. Laversdale had a second pub as well. Not the Sportsman in Carlisle. Historic England's gazetteer lists it, with a question mark, among the houses the Board took over in 1916, and by 2018 it was a private house called Sportsman House. In August 1886 the licence of the Dog and Gun Inn, Laversdale, passed from Jane Queen to Thomas James Brown, formerly a landscape gardener with Messrs Clark of Carlisle.
