In the local directories from 1850 to 1914, shown on Asquith's 1853 map. Margaret McCutcheon, born in Scotland, was innkeeper in 1861; Robert Burns, also Scottish-born, held it by 1901 and is photographed as licensee in a 1902 view of the pub. The scheme acquired it in September 1916, and it didn't simply close: it carried on for decades after as a works social club, recorded in 1950 as "Carrs men's and pensioners' club" -- Carrs being the Carlisle biscuit firm -- before finally coming down, with the demolition itself photographed and published in 1955.
