Number thirty-eight on the 1920 roll, which gives its address as Denton Crescent rather than Denton Street. It closed in 1971, the year the scheme itself was wound up, so it went out more or less with the thing that had run it for fifty-five years. It took its name from the Nelson Bridge over the Caldew. The original building stood on Charlotte Street and came down for the railway viaduct; the pub moved across the road in 1875 into a former grocer's shop at the corner of Denton Crescent and Elm Street, which is the building the 1920 roll means.

A Cumberland News report on its 1971 closure calls it a pub of 62 years standing, which would date it to about 1909 rather than to its 1858 first appearance in the directories -- possibly counting only from the move, or possibly just loose arithmetic; not resolved here.
