The earliest reference to any pub found anywhere in this archive. In 1592 commissioners were said to have met at the sign of the Dragon Inn Coronet, described as "a common Inn," per Henry Summerson's Medieval Carlisle, p564. No location within the city and nothing about its later history has surfaced -- just this one sixteenth-century mention, a hundred and fifty years before anything else in this archive's Georgian record.
