In 1592 commissioners were said to have met at the sign of the Dragon Inn Coronet, described as 'a common Inn', per Henry Summerson's Medieval Carlisle, p564. That is the whole of the record: no location within the city, and nothing about its later history. It is the oldest named inn among Carlisle's lost pubs, forty years older than the first mention of the Angel.
