One of Southwaite's three pubs on the scheme's 1920 roll, and the only one that can now be dated. Mike Tuer's Cumberland database has it in the directories from 1894 to after 1971, and the sell-off records show it sold as a tenanted house for £4,760 when the scheme wound up. The name is the giveaway: Southwaite had a station on the main line, opened with the Lancaster and Carlisle Railway and closed to passengers in 1952, and the pub was named for it.
The village's other two roll entries, the Blue Bell and the Market Gate, remain untraced, though the sell-off list records a Smiths Arms Inn at Marketgate sold for £7,750 and a Crown Inn at Broadfield, Southwaite, managed by the scheme and valued at £4,570.
