Built as a cattle byre and made into an inn around 1850, in its own grounds off the road through the village, with views over the Bewcastle fells. It took its name from the Carlisle to Newcastle line rather than any station of its own, and carried the joke through: the footrest along the bar was a length of rail. It's on the 1920 State Management list. Just beyond the ten-mile line this site otherwise keeps to, included because it was a scheme pub.
