In Carlisle directories from 1847 through to 1907-08, then absent, so it went somewhere in between. The 1861 census has William Forster, a thirty-year-old Carlisle joiner, running it as joiner and innkeeper, and by 1891 John Robert Dalton from Cockermouth had it. A joiner keeping the Mason's Arms is the kind of thing the trade names on this site keep throwing up. There was a second Mason's Arms on Blackfriars Street in the 1847 directory.
