The Cumberland Inn
Designed by Harry Redfern and opened on 29 September 1930, replacing the original mid-Victorian Cumberland Inn. Grade II listed in 2000 and reckoned the least altered of all the State Management pubs — Tudor-Gothic stone frontage, Japanese oak panelling, and stained glass windows worked with three red fern leaves: Redfern signing his own building.
Botchergate local with a good draught range at low prices and live sport on. Late licence Saturdays.
History
Opened 29 September 1930
Built 1929-30 to Harry Redfern's design, replacing the original mid-Victorian Cumberland Inn, and opened on 29 September 1930. Built by J&R Bell of Carlisle, who Redfern commemorated with a stained glass rebus in six of the windows. Grade II listed in 2000 and reckoned the least altered of all the Scheme's pubs — narrow Tudor-Gothic stone frontage, Japanese oak panelling, first class upstairs and second class down.
