Redfern Inn
The last pub the scheme built before the war, opened 1 October 1940 and named in tribute to Harry Redfern after ill health stopped him working. It was designed by his assistant Joseph Seddon with Redfern's involvement. A bowling green was required from the outset and shaped the whole layout.
Community local on Kingmoor Road, full of darts and pool teams. Well-kept beer, no food.
History
Opened 1 October 1940
The last pub the Scheme built before the war. Harry Redfern had a heart attack in December 1936 and his wife died the following May, so when Carlisle needed a new pub for the 3,000 workers expected at the new RAF equipment depot, his assistant Joseph Seddon took the job on. It was named the Redfern Inn in his honour and opened on 1 October 1940. A bowling green was required from the outset and shaped the whole layout.
